Grassroot supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroot have staged a protest at the entrance of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) office over the appointment of Anthony Sarpong as Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA.
The aggrieved youth argued that Mr. Sarpong is a strong sympathizer the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cannot appreciate their efforts in securing victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7, 2024 polls.
According to them, such a person will overlook their hard work and fail to reward them adequately.
Youth Organizer and grassroot member Yakubu Usman says there are equally competent individuals in the NDC who are capable of playing the role.
“Sarpong was playing an active role in government leadership under the previous government. His time has ended so he has to go. We cannot work with a member of the NPP. He has no idea how the youth have suffered. An NDC member will understand and give us the help we deserve because we, the youth, have worked for it.”
Describing the appointment by President Mahama as a “discord,” he called on the President to reconsider his decision.
“We are pleading with President Mahama to reconsider his decision. This is what led to our defeat in 2016. We cannot sit and observe this discord, so we are pleading with the President to hear the voice of the youth.”
