Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, says the minority may boycott ministerial vettings scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025.
According to him, the Majority is allegedly planning on bussing party supporters to the venue to cheer on their nominees. This he described as a security threat.
He called on the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, to ensure adequate security is provided at the vetting premises, warning that failure to do so could lead to a Minority boycott.
Addressing the recent clashes between the Minority and Majority caucuses over the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, he claimed that National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters nearly assaulted New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs after the altercation.
According to him, following the chaos, he and the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, had to be escorted by police officers to their offices for safety, as angry supporters attempted to attack them. He added that some MPs were forced to spend the night in their offices due to security concerns.
Annoh-Dompreh urged the Chairman of the Appointments Committee to restrict the number of people granted access to the premises and to implement strict security measures. He warned that if these concerns are not addressed, the Minority may be left with no choice but to boycott the vetting sessions.
