A violent clash between small-scale miners and the military has led to 7 persons reportedly dead in Obuasi. The military personnel were said to be guarding the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine.

The information gathered reveals four vehicles have also been burnt following the clash. Reports suggest the incident happened last night on January 18, which has heightened tensions.

Captain Smart in an old video called on Ghanaian youth in Kumasi to go to the pit, according to him Anglo Gold Ashanti is destroying Obuasi.

He noted that Anglo Gold Ashanti have been using cyanite to create a hole almost 100 meters square which they cannot do in South Africa.

The Broadcaster stated in a video, “Ghanaian youth in Kumasi, go to the pit, go there with Vim, everyone should go there, you are mad, go there, AGA (Anglo Gold Ashanti) if you guys don’t take care we will chase you out of this country I swear”.

“If you are not careful we will chase you out of this country, because listen can you use cyanite to create a hole almost 100 meters square in South Africa? Cyanite squares 100 meters about three of them in South Africa” he added.

Captain Smart further added that former President Akufo-Addo is to blame, saying, “If not for our leaders who know nothing, these people are leading us, these people, can you do this in South Africa, this is what I want Nana Addo to know, The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources must understand AGA is destroying Obuasi. The youth of Obuasi rise, if you don’t get some of the gold to eat very soon your manhood will die”, he stated boldly.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have revealed that the illegal miners fired first at soldiers who tried to stop them from accessing Anglo Gold Ashanti mines.

According to the GAF statement, their troops returned fire in self-defence leading to the death of seven illegal miners and one seriously injured.
