Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister nominee has revealed that the former Akufo-Addo government inflated the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) initiative by $100 million.
According to him only 25 per cent has been paid and not all the liabilities have been met so he would encourage the new Mahama administration to renegotiate the DRIP initiative.
Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, Hon Ablakwa revealed, “Fortunately, only 25 percent has been paid and not all the liabilities have been met so I have encouraged the new Mahama administration to renegotiate the DRIP initiative so that we can save money because my conservative estimate is that it has been inflated by more than $100 million”.
“And there is the need to save money because $100 million can do so much for an IMF-bailout country”, Ablakwa added.
Meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has detailed that his exposés on wrongdoing have saved Ghana millions of dollars.
According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa if Ghana do not remain alert and call out financial irregularities the country will lose vital resources.
He added, “My exposés about wrongdoings have saved this country millions of dollars. If we do not remain alert and call out financial irregularities, Ghana will continue to lose vital resources that could be used for development.
I do not engage in these exposés for personal gain or political advantage. My focus is on ensuring that the hard-earned resources of this country are used prudently and not squandered through shady deals.
I will continue to stand for integrity and accountability. Ghana’s foreign service must reflect these values, ensuring that we serve our people and protect the country’s image internationally”, he revealed.
