The Ada Traditional Council has linked the recent attack on Electrochem Ghana Limited in Ada Songhor to remarks made by the NDC about ‘reclaiming’ the salt mining concession ahead of the 2024 elections.
Addressing the media the Ada Traditional Council noted the raid by armed men caused significant damage, prompting the Council to condemn the act and warn of its impact on the local business climate.
Speaking in a press conference the spokesperson of the Ada Traditional Council stated, “It has become necessary to draw the country’s attention and particularly that of the president and the top hierarchy of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to acts of criminality, incitement of person to indulge in acts of criminality through the dissemination of lies and negative propaganda”.
“We will recall that a top member of the NDC from the Sege constituency made certain utterances on the 1st December 2024, among which he said was “Ones president Mahama is sworn they will take over the Songhor”, these actions have created a lot of fear and panic and heighten insecurity in the Ada traditional area”, the council added.
The Ada Traditional Council stated they are outraged about the kind of events given that they spearheaded the grant of the lease and assumption of salt mining by Electrochem in the Ada Traditional area.
They further noted that these people have planned to cause chaos and mischief and have indicated this regularly in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, a video surfaced on social media last week of some Ada locals storming Electrochem Ghana to retrieve their seized equipment.
Information gathered suggests Electrochem Ghana seized equipment from the locals by using state security.
Queen mother of the Terkperbiawe Clan in Ada, Naana Korleki Korley I, has been crying out over McDan’s Ada-Songor Salt concession.
According to her, she had high hopes when she supported the takeover of the Ada Songor Salt Project by Electrochem Ghana Limited, she didn’t know the company owned by business mogul, Daniel McKorley, commonly known as McDan wanted to take everything from them.
McDan’s Electrochem on their websites states the company has secured a concession of 41,000 acres at Ada Songor to produce 1,000,000 metric tons of salt per annum.
