Ghana’s 8th parliament will officially dissolve today 6th January 2025.
The dissolution of the 8th Parliament will usher in the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.
The ceremony will be conducted during the final sitting of the 8th Parliament.
Ghana’s 8th Parliament was closely contested in Ghana’s history, with both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) holding an equal number of seats at the beginning with 137 seats each and an Independent Member.
The 8th Parliament was tainted with all kinds of tussles during its four-year lifespan, which began during the inauguration, with the military storming parliament.
Meanwhile, after the dissolution, the newly elected Members of Parliament in the December polls will be sworn in at midnight to signify the commencement of the 9th Parliament.
In the inaugural session, there will be the election of a speaker of parliament and two deputy Speakers for the 9TH Parliament.
