Ashanti Regional Minister-Designate, Dr. Frank Amoakohene was taken through a lesson in the region’s traditional composition during his vetting.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee in parliament, Dr. Amoakohene was clothed in a colorful kente cloth, a symbol of he being a true son of the Ashanti Kingdom.
During the vetting, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah asked him the number of paramountcies and divisions in the Ashanti Region.
“Since you’re in a nice cloth from the Ashanti Region and you’ve spoken so well, how many paramountcies do we have in the great kingdom under his royal majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu,” he asked.
Dr. Amoakohene admitted he did not know the exact number off the top his head but proceeded to mention the “Mampong traditional area, Offinso and Kumawu” as some of the paramountcies.
In a lighter note, Patrick Yaw Boamah (MP) answered, “If you don’t know, you don’t know.”
The MP indicated that there are some 66 paramountcies and 12 division in the Ashanti kingdom.
He explained the significance of such information to the regional minister as he will be a frequent visitor of the Manhyia Palace during addae.
“So you should know where they sit and how to go about your duties,” he added.
