The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on the youth to avoid violence as the nation approaches the upcoming elections.
In a statement, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that political party supporters should focus on issue-based campaigns that highlight their parties’ achievements, rather than resorting to confrontation or chaos.
Speaking at the annual Teachers’ Awards ceremony in his constituency, the Majority Leader in Parliament warned that anyone found engaging in violent acts would face severe legal consequences.
He cautioned that no politician would intervene to secure the release of offenders, reinforcing the need for peaceful and lawful conduct during the election period.
“A reminder to those of you who are foot soldiers, who are busy with the politics in our communities. We the political class in parliament are friends to each other and one another. We do not fight. We engage each other.
“So if you are here and you are going to pull a knife because somebody disagrees with you, I am sorry when things go bad, you may not find that politician who is a beneficiary of your conduct following you.
“The political party may even disown you, so let’s be careful.”
