A relative of one victim in the East Legon accident has reacted to the court’s 6-month jail sentence and GH₵12K fine for the culprit’s parents.
According to the relative of one of the victims who cried out one cannot kill two people through reckless driving and get this court outcome.
Speaking to the media after the court verdict, she stated, “What can I say, the court has spoken, but I am praying that in due time the laws will change, you can’t kill two people through reckless driving and get this outcome but that is the law”.
Meanwhile, Elrad Salifu has been sentenced to six months after his involvement in the East Legon accident.
His parents Bishop Salifu Amoako and the mother of Elrad Salifu have been fined GHc6k each for failing to control their son.
They were also ordered to pay for the damage caused in the accident, involving a light pole valued at GHS 8,000.
During the proceedings at the Family and Juvenile Court, the boy initially pleaded not guilty to all charges but has now pleaded guilty.
Elrad Salifu is sentenced to the Senior Correctional Centre after pleading guilty to 8 counts including two counts of manslaughter.
The tragic accident, which involved a 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, led to the deaths of two beautiful girls last week on October 12, 2024.
According to the Ghana Police Service statement, Elrad was driving a Jaguar SUV crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle driven by Joseph Ackah with four occupants.
The prosecutor in the case, Elrad Amoako, was leading a 3-SUV convoy with his friends in East Legon and decided to show off the speed of the Jaguar F-Pace Sport while leading a 3-SUV convoy with his friends from A&C mall.
