The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the factors behind its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters, National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim stated that the committee will seek candid feedback from party members to aid in reorganization efforts ahead of future elections.
He emphasized the need for introspection and called for a review of the party’s constitution, including processes for electing national executives and flag bearers.
“We aimed for an emphatic victory and gave our best efforts,” Ntim said.
“While the results were not what we hoped for, we remain committed to our quest for a better Ghana shaped by NPP ideals.”
The committee, set to be formed in January 2025, will analyze the circumstances leading to the party’s defeat and engage stakeholders and the general public to identify lessons for the future.
The announcement comes in the wake of former President John Dramani Mahama’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Mahama, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 56.55% of the votes, defeating Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who obtained 41.61%.
The NDC’s success extended to Parliament, where the party won a majority with over 180 confirmed seats, reclaiming key constituencies previously held by the NPP.
