The aftermath of December 7 general elections has been marked by uncertainty and a growing sense of tension in Ashanti Region, where the collation of results from the Police Training Academy turned into a scene of confusion and accusations.
As election officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) began packing up their materials late into the evening, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Legal Affairs for Ashanti, Kwame Yeboah, issued a stark warning, calling for transparency and vigilance.
“Nothing went on today; we are leaving, and don’t expect anyone to enter this hall secretly to declare anyone as winner,” Yeboah declared firmly, his words echoing through the packed room as EC staff prepared to vacate the premises.
His comments came in response to growing rumors that some individuals, possibly with links to the new patriotic party (NPP), were attempting to manipulate the process.
As ballot boxes were being sealed and papers were counted, the mood in the room was visibly tense.
While EC officials remained tight-lipped, the NDC legal director was vocal about the need for full transparency and fairness in the collation process.
The Police Training Academy had become a focal point for political observers, journalists, and party agents alike, who anxiously awaited the final tally of votes from various districts.
