The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has received an additional GH₵35 million from the government through the Ministry of Education.
According to WAEC the additional funds are to support the scanning of objective answer cards and the final processing of results for the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates.
WAEC someday ago expressed their dissatisfaction with the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government over the release of GH¢25 million cedis recently to offset part of the GH¢118 million debt owed to the Council.
According to WAEC, the funds are not enough to enable the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, which remain delayed due to the government’s indebtedness.
In a Press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs John K. Kapi on December 27, 2024, stated, “The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its stakeholders that on December 25, 2024, it received a cheque for an additional amount of GHC 35,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable it complete the scanning of the objective answer cards and conclude processing of results for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024”.
“Consequently, the Council is working round the clock to ensure the results are released by the end of the month” the statement added.
WAEC further appealed to the Ministry of Education to release the outstanding balance to enable it to pay Supervisors, Invigilators, script checkers, suppliers of examination materials and also meet other financial obligations.
The Council further wished all stakeholders the Best of the Season and assured them of its commitment to the execution of its mandate despite the challenges.
