Some stolen cars from the USA and Canada which were seized by Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana and kept at the Accra West Division Office of National Investigation Bureau (NIB) have been moved to an undisclosed location.
In a video secretly recorded, the cars which had been sitting at the NIB Accra West Divisional office for the past year, were suddenly being moved by unidentified people.
The video which was shared on X by Kevin Taylor where he wrote, “Supposed Stolen cars/vehicles from Canada and US that were seized by EOCO and kept at Accra West Division Office of National Investigation Bureau were being moved out of the office at 1130 hours today. 2. COP Mrs Tiwa Addo Dankwa Head of EOCO should tell us all where the vehicles are being sent to.”
Ghana’s busy capital city of Accra served as the backdrop for CBC News’ discovery of numerous stolen vehicles.
Many of these cars had been seized by EOCO and National Security, while others were found in car sales markets (garages) and parking lots.
Very often, vehicles stolen from Canada are found to still contain the insurance and registration documents of their original owners in the glove compartment.
Sometimes, EOCO is unable to seize some of these cars as their stolen status have not yet been relayed to Interpol.
