In a video, he charged the IGP to arrest him as he would unleash violence on the NPP’s national executives if he is not arrested.

“I have already warned you and I am saying it again, IGP mark it on the wall. The very day the NPP losses an election in this country, the first person you should arrest is me. Listen to me carefully, if you do not arrest me, I will lead a chunk of boys to the NPP national office and we will beat the hell out of them. I am sounding a warning,” he said.

Post the 2024 elections, this video has been re-shared on social media, with X users prompting the Ghana Police Service to quickly move to effect his arrest.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana officially announced John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as President-elect.

According to the Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Jane Mensah, results from 267 out of 276 constituencies show that Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total valid votes cast.

His closest contender, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% out of 11, 430, 531 vote casts

The announcement follows days of tension and anticipation as Ghanaians waited for the final verdict and after Dr. Bawumia conceded defeat. The total voter turnout was reported at 60.9%, with 11, 430, 531 valid votes cast out of the 18, 774, 159 registered voters.

John Dramani Mahama is expected to be sworn in as Ghana’s next president on January 7, 2025.

However, the aftermath of the election has been anything but peaceful. There have been pockets of violence nationwide, with fire being set to EC offices, government appointees having their offices raided to government offices being besieged by thugs.
