Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was in a state of surprise and anxiety as the new e-gates refused to open for him yesterday.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a cutting-edge Digital Border Control System and e-gates at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra.
The initiative launched on Tuesday, December 3, is a landmark in Ghana’s efforts to modernize border management with a system designed, developed, and owned by Ghanaians.
The system integrates artificial intelligence, biometrics, and real-time data processing, streamlining airport procedures.
Holders of the Ghana card can now use e-gates for seamless entry without manual immigration checks. The system also accommodates members of the diaspora and international visitors through pre-registration of their biometric and travel information.
During the launch, Dr. Bawumia decided to demonstrate to the media and all present at the launch how the e-gates operate.
However, after swiping his Ghana card at the e-gates, Dr. Bawumia stood there for about a minute as the gates refused to open.
The video which has since gone viral has generated a lot of reactions, with Ghanaians making fun of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
