The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, appears to be on the verge of losing her parliamentary seat in the Ablekuma West constituency during the 2024 general elections.
Preliminary results from the ongoing collation indicate that Rev Kwaku Addo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, is in the lead. Of the 145 polling stations collated so far out of a total of 224, Rev Addo has secured 20,444 votes, placing him over 4,000 votes ahead of the incumbent. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has so far polled 16,304 votes.
With the collation process still underway, the Ablekuma West seat, long held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), appears to be tilting toward the opposition. The Electoral Commission is expected to officially announce the results once all polling stations are accounted for.
The 2024 elections, held across 276 constituencies nationwide, have been largely peaceful, despite isolated incidents of violence. One person was confirmed dead in a reported clash in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
As the collation continues, the Electoral Commission has urged all Ghanaians to remain calm and exercise patience. “We are committed to delivering a transparent and successful election process,” the Commission emphasized.
Should Rev Kwaku Addo’s lead hold, it would mark a significant shift in Ablekuma West, a constituency where Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has been a dominant figure for the NPP. The final outcome remains eagerly anticipated by both parties and constituents.
