Two individuals have been arrested with two disassembled G3 rifles with 40 rounds of ammunition.
According to reports, at around 5 p.m. yesterday, two individuals, identified as Nlibe Otanpi and Balon Matthew were arrested by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Sangba Inland checkpoint.
The two were found with two disassembled G3 rifles in a box, along with about 40 rounds of ammunition.
One of the suspects, Balon Matthew, claimed to be an area coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and gave two separate accounts for how they obtained the weapons.
First, he stated that they had purchased the weapons from a military man, with each rifle costing GHS 25,000. He later claimed they obtained the weapons from his uncle in Accra.
The two, who were on separate motorbikes, attempted to bribe the officers with GHS 20 when the officers insisted on conducting a search of their box.
The suspects immediately tried to flee after the officers rejected the bribe, but they were arrested following a chase.
