Two individuals have been arrested at the Sangba Inland checkpoint for attempting to smuggle two German-made Keckler and Koch G3 riffles across the border.
The suspects, identified as Nlibe Otanpi and Balon Matthew were arrested after attempting to flee and evade a search by Immigration Officers.
The two who were one separate motorbikes upon reaching the checkpoint attempted to bribe the Immigration Officers with Ghc20 in an attempt to avoid any searches on their person and contraband.
The suspects attempted to flee from the Immigration Officers who gave them a hot chase and arrested them eventually according to a post on X by @eddie_wrt
After conducting a search on them, they were found with two disassembled G3 rifles in a box, along with about 40 rounds of ammunition.
Upon interrogation, the suspects gave two different accounts as to how they acquired the weapons.
They first claimed they had purchased the weapons from a military man, with each rifle costing GHS 25,000, but later claimed they obtained the weapons from an uncle in Accra.
