Some youth of the National Democratic Congress have assaulted three Indian Catholic priests over attempts to transport DRIP equipment out of town.
According to reports the Catholic priests have been in Ghana since 2005, the three priests have been identified as Father Robinson Melkis, Father Frank Henry Jacob, and Father Martin George, all belonging to the Capuchin Friars.
Information gathered suggests the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan, Monsignor Joseph Kofi Nsiah, hired a bulldozer from the Nkwanta-South Municipal Assembly to work on a piece of land they were preparing to construct a Formation House project for seminarians.
The priest who accompanied the equipment was at a filling station to fuel the machine, when they were attacked by some NDC youths who accused them of stealing the equipment.
Reports suggest Father Frank Henry Jacob lost hearing in one of his ears and has since been referred to Yendi Hospital. The attack was captured in a video that has gone viral on social media which claimed they were stealing the Assembly Road equipment.
The Ghana Police have impounded the equipment and have since granted them bail after the intervention of the Vicar-General with further investigation expected.
Meanwhile, today the NDC branch of the Nkwanta-South Constituency has apologized to the three Indian Catholic Priests and the Jasikan Diocese of the Catholic Church.
