Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has advised Ghanaian politicians to be reflective given the results of the 2024 December 7 polls.
He indicated that the elections has been a big lesson to politicians not to take Ghanaians for granted.
“I am rather more reflective because what this results show is that, look you the political elite be careful. When we give you the mandate we haven’t given you power to come and fool around, to come and loot,” he said in a post election interview.
According to him, politicians should learn to improve the lot of their constituents and Ghanaians and value them when given power.
“Now there is no safe seat in Ghana, there is no safe region. If you’re a traditional politician thinking I can run to my stronghold, I can run to this region and get some refuge, or at least I will never go below 45 or 46 percent, all of that myth have been shattered by the 2024 elections.”
He reiterated that political actors must wake up “and don’t mess around with the Ghanaian people, don’t take them for granted. You have to accord them the respect they deserve and I hope that will guide us coming into gov’t.”
The 2024 general elections saw a huge upset in the Ghanaian political space. Some MPs who were regarded as “untouchable” and their seats seen as “safe” lost their seats.
The 2024 elections has been a wake up call to politicians that Ghanaians are not the same.
