US resident from TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé, Niles made a life-changing trip to Ghana in search of his true love, and he got more than he bargained for when Mr. Arc, a wise and experienced local, shared some invaluable pre-marriage advice.
As they discuss the traditional marriage customs, Mr. Arc wasted no time in laying out the expectations with his signature straightforwardness.
“Given the material,” Mr. Arc began, “For the father, take another thousand. For the mother’s side, another thousand.
And 300 for the knocking fee you don’t have to, but it’s tradition. And don’t forget 200 for the brothers-in-law.”
Niles, absorbing the cultural differences, nodded in agreement, but Mr. Arc wasn’t finished.
“Now, listen,” he continued, “you have to behave like a married person.
This is traditional marriage, and we have rules.
We have sex with a woman with a vagina. You don’t sex through the anus, understand? I know in America you all are common doing that, but here in Africa, we don’t do that. Understand?”
clearly a little taken aback by the blunt advice. “But I didn’t expect to hear that today.”
With a chuckle, Mr. Arc nodded, “Yes, my son, there are many things you will learn, but for now, let’s head to Matilda’s family house. Yes?”
“Yes, Mom,” Niles responded, as the reality of the situation set in, and he prepared for the next chapter of his Ghanaian love story.
