Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team, has apologized for his controversial statement made during the election campaign, where he claimed he would burn himself alive on television if John Mahama won the election.
Speaking from what he described as his “hideout,” Gyewu-Appiah clarified that his remark was a political statement and should not be taken literally.
“I want to make it clear that it was just a political statement, and I never intended to actually follow through with it,” Gyewu-Appiah said in his apology.
“I deeply regret making such an extreme comment, and I ask Ghanaians to forgive me.”
He acknowledged that the remark had caused significant distress, not only for him but also for his family and some of his friends.
“It has affected me, my loved ones, and those around me in ways I didn’t anticipate,” he added.
