Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to misinterpret the criticisms of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by media personality Johnnie Hughes.
Afenyo Markin acknowledged Hughes’ criticisms of the NPP but emphasized that it would be a mistake for the NDC to assume that Hughes’ stance aligns with their party.
“The NDC might think they have benefited from Johnnie Hughes’ criticisms of the NPP, but I know he wants what’s best for the country and will do the same when they assume power,” he said.
He explained that his approach to leadership has always been to create a platform for diverse opinions, even when it involves recognizing the contributions of individuals from opposing political parties.
“Naming a facility or a street after a prominent person, even from the opposition, is about serving the people and bridging the gap,” he added.
He urged the NPP and the NDC to be open to constructive criticism from such individuals and manage the political landscape accordingly.
“It’s about speaking the truth, no matter which side of the political divide you’re on,” he concluded.
