Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has openly addressed the party’s loss in the 2024 elections, stating that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claimed victory, it was the NPP that ultimately handed them the win.
Speaking to a delegation of constituents and executives from the Korley Klottey Constituency, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the NPP’s failure to retain its voter base due to a lack of appreciation for the party’s support.
He emphasised that, upon analysing the election results, it became clear that the NPP inadvertently handed power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) rather than the opposition party outperforming their 2020 results.
“We couldn’t meet our expectations that is why we conceded. That doesn’t mean it is over.
We lost a battle, not the war. I want to encourage you all. In this election, we were the ones that gave the victory to NDC.
They didn’t win because their numbers didn’t change from 2020.
He attributed the NPP’s vote loss to a failure to appreciate the party’s support during the election, stressing the importance of solidarity to regain power and strengthen the NPP for the future.
