The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is one of Ghana’s two major political parties, known for its commitment to social democracy and progressive governance.
Founded on June 10, 1992, by Jerry John Rawlings, the NDC emerged from the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which Rawlings led after the 1981 coup.
The party played a critical role in transitioning Ghana from military rule to democratic governance.

These slogans; ‘3y3 Zu’ and ‘3y3 Za’ – serve as powerful expressions of the party’s vision for a unified and harmonious Ghanaian society.
The slogans, or if you may refer to them as jargons, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana,
“3y3 Zu” and “3y3 Za,” are imbued with profound meanings that emphasise unity, peaceful coexistence, and cultural diversity.
Coined by the party’s founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings, these slogans reflect the NDC’s enduring commitment to fostering harmony and collaboration among Ghanaians.
In a recent post by TV3, it explained that “3y3 Zu” was derived from the Hausa phrase “3y3 Zumunci,” which signifies “togetherness,” while “3y3 Za” originates from
“3y3 Zamananlafia,” meaning “peaceful coexistence.”
