Reports suggest there are heightened tensions in the Ada-Songor District amidst renewed escalations between residents and an alleged force of police and military personnel.
The local residents clashed with the alleged force of the police and military personnel over the disputed salt mine concessions with McDan’s Electrochem.
In a viral video shared by SIKAOFFICIAL, the residents of the Bornikope community were captured in a clash with some alleged men with guns, according to reports the incident happened on December 23, 2024.
According to one of the narrators in the video shared on social media, alleged military men have destroyed a rubber tube that the locals use to draw water to make salt.

Meanwhil, a Queenmother of the Terkperbiawe Clan in Ada, Naana Korleki Korley I, has been crying out over McDan’s Ada-Songor Salt concession.
According to her, she had high hopes when she supported the takeover of the Ada Songor Salt Project by Electrochem Ghana Limited, a company owned by business mogul, Daniel McKorley, commonly known as McDan.
Naana Korleki reminisced the day saying, “That day, I was excited. I thought we had found an investor who had Ada at heart, but I didn’t know it was someone who wanted to take everything from us and own it.”
On the website of McDan’s Electrochem, they stated the company has secured a concession of 41,000 acres at Ada Songor to produce 1,000,000 metric tons of salt per annum to supply to local and export markets.
Reports coming in have also revealed that the state-owned Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) handed a staggering US$30 million to McDan’s Electrochem for its Ada-Songor Salt project to secure a shocking 6 percent stake in McDan’s Electrochem for its Ada-Songor Salt project raising serious questions about who truly benefits from this deal.
