The Sunyani West Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly opposed the Electoral Commission’s decision to change the agreed-upon collation center just days before the elections.
According to the NDC, stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission (EC), had previously agreed to use the Sunyani West Old Municipal Assembly Block as the collation center, a venue that has served this purpose in past elections.
However, the EC has reportedly decided to move the center to Odumase Senior High School (SHS) without prior consultation.
At a press conference in Odumase, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, expressed the party’s dissatisfaction, stating that the decision is unacceptable.
“The old assembly hall is more secure compared to the SHS, which is not fenced and lacks adequate lighting,”
Ms. Amankwah Yeboah noted. She disclosed that the party had officially written to the EC and the police, and both initially assured the party that the old assembly hall would remain the collation center.
“We will not allow anyone to cheat or rig the elections,”
Ms. Amankwah Yeboah emphasized. The party has called on the EC and other stakeholders to prioritize transparency and ensure fairness to prevent any electoral disputes.
