Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has strongly opposed the list of tax waivers presented in the business statements by the Majority Leader.
Speaking in Parliament, Ablakwa expressed concern about the fiscal implications of these waivers, warning that they could create serious financial challenges for the next government.
“The second issue I want to raise relates to the long list of tax waivers that the Majority Leader continues to present to this House,” Ablakwa said.
“We have stated our position on this matter. Over 40 tax waivers are being proposed, and these will have serious fiscal implications for the next government.”
Ablakwa questioned why such unpopular measures, which had been rejected by the Ghanaian people in the elections, were still being pushed forward.
“Why would you want to saddle the next government with these huge revenue losses after being rejected at the polls?
This government is coming in with a mandate to reduce obnoxious taxes, yet they are creating new fiscal liabilities for us,” he said.
The MP further emphasized that the tax waivers were not in line with the priorities of the incoming government, urging that they be removed from the business statement.
“As for tax waivers, we cannot support them. We need to focus on the right priorities, particularly the budget for the first three months of next year,”.
Post-Election Sitting: Some tax waivers have fiscal implications, we are not going to support it.
