The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has issued a comprehensive set of directives to ensure a peaceful and incident-free environment during Ghana’s December 7, 2024, general elections.
The measures, announced by the Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, aim to uphold the integrity of the polls and guarantee public safety before, during, and after the elections.
Key highlights of the directives include a ban on vigilante groups, “machomen,” and private security personnel from entering polling stations.
Election security will be exclusively managed by state security agencies. Additionally, motorcycles are prohibited in and around polling centres to prevent potential disruptions.
The council also barred the display of political party paraphernalia, including T-shirts and other items, at polling centres.
Only Electoral Commission staff, accredited party agents, observers, and voters will be permitted within the inner parameters of voting locations, with mobile phones and cameras strictly prohibited in these areas.
Bodyguards of ministers, deputy ministers, and other dignitaries are also restricted from carrying weapons or entering polling stations.
Furthermore, the use of toy guns and firecrackers has been banned across the Ashanti Region to prevent unnecessary disturbances.
REGSEC called on voters to leave polling centres immediately after casting their ballots, urging full compliance with the directives to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election.
