Ghanaweb, one of Ghana’s leading online news platforms has been made to delete its published article on the National Service Scheme scandal.
According to the information gathered from StatsGH, the online news portal published the NSS article some 2 hours ago but was made to quickly take it down after an alleged order from above.
It must be noted that Ghanaweb under its new ownership of Dr. Ayew Afriyie, an NPP MP representing Effiduase-Asokore in the Ashanti Region who acquired GhanaWeb for €1 million in recent times allegedly no longer maintains its traditional neutrality in political reporting.
This shift allegedly comes after the site’s founder, Robert Bellaart, claimed in a letter that the website has transformed into a supportive outlet for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his political aspirations.
Meanwhile, according to the information circulating on social media, the National Service Secretariat (NSS) is embroiled in a corruption scandal that have shocked Ghanaians two days before the major elections.
The reports suggest data of active NSS personnel have been inflated by 40,000 names. It is reported that the 40,000 ghost names are said to be working in state institutions and paid an allowance of GHS 715 a month and have been allegedly perpetuated for some 36 months.
The leaked information on social media also alleged that Gifty Oware-Aboagye oversaw the payment of these allowances into the accounts of the 40,000 ghost service personnel.
More revelation reveals that the allowances for these 40,000 ghost names were disbursed without delay to the accounts of their while, actual NSS personnel who have been working hard for months had their allowances delayed for months.
Doing a little math calculation the people or the syndicate involved in the NSS scandal received the allowances on behalf of these 40,000 ghost individuals making a whooping GHS343m per year for 3 years.
