Samuel Abu Jinapor, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been officially declared the Member of Parliament-elect for the Damango constituency in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing the media and the Ghanaian public, the Returning Officer provided clarity on the delays in announcing the results, citing disturbances caused by mob vandalism at the Damango polling center.
The vandalism led to a delay in the election result declaration, but the process has since been completed.
The Returning Officer, who was appointed by the Electoral Commission due to the unavailability of the original returning officer, explained that an agreement had been made with all political parties to proceed with the collation of the presidential and parliamentary results for the constituency.
Following the collation, the results showed that Samuel Abu Jinapor secured 16,222 valid votes, leading his closest competitor, Adams Mutala Wakilu, who garnered 14,425 votes.
A third candidate, Saka Baba Moses, received just 66 votes.
“I therefore declare him the parliamentary MP-elect for the Damango constituency,” the Returning Officer confirmed.
