The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that a romantic relationship between the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate and the district Electoral Commission (EC) officer in Tepa led to the chaos that erupted during the collation of results, resulting in property destruction and the postponement of the declaration of presidential and parliamentary election results in the area.
Speaking in an interview with Kofi TV, an NDC member claimed that the relationship was uncovered through WhatsApp conversations found on the EC officer’s phone.
According to the NDC member, the EC officer left her phone behind and fled in panic when violence broke out during the collation process, amid gunshots and heightened tensions.
“When the phone was checked, months of conversations between the EC officer and the NPP parliamentary candidate revealed not only their romantic relationship but also the sharing of information regarding the parliamentary election,” the NDC member alleged.
The violence in Tepa caused significant disruption, with properties vandalized and the election process delayed.
The NDC insists that the revelations point to a conflict of interest on the part of the EC officer and question the integrity of the electoral process in the constituency.
The NPP is yet to respond to the allegations
