Sam George, the member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram has revealed that the Ghana Highway Authorities fired a woman for generating GHS3m revenue monthly from an axle load station.
According to Sam Goerge, the woman came to him at Ningo his constituency with evidence that she was sacked in November this year.
Speaking on TV3’s Key Point show on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Sam George detailed, “In November this year, she was sacked from her post, she was told they couldn’t work with her, In 2023, her axle weight station at that time the person who was managing it was called David Quarshie, In January 2023 that station generated, two hundred and thirty-five thousand two hundred and sixty-six Ghana cedis. The highest was in December when it was recorded at Six hundred eight thousand one hundred and fifty-nine Ghana cedis this was 2023”.
“In 2024 a gentleman called Castro took over in January he recorded three hundred sixty-five thousand six hundred and ninety-seven Ghana cedis, in March, from the 1st of March to the 12th of March he recorded three hundred and fifty-one thousand two hundred and fifty-six”, he added.
The member of parliament further detailed, “Then this lady took over I don’t want to put out his name yet, she took over on March 13th March, and from 13th of March to 31st March the revenue she generated was one million two sixty-six thousand eight hundred and forty-seven, but the time she worked in the whole of April, she generates three million one hundred and forty thousand eight hundred and thirty-one.
“The average rate of revenue from that axel weight station was 250,000 as soon as the lady took over her average was 3 million Ghana cedis, she was called by the High Ways authorities and told that he was raising too much revenue because there was a cartel, that drains the money that is raised and declares an average of only 250,000 every month, one axle weight company, this is one”, Sam George disclosed.
Sam George further declared he would wage a campaign and a war to ensure that this woman is reinstated because she is the kind of Ghanaian that must be celebrated.
He further detailed that the woman told BNI her life was at risk because she was told in June not to exceed 1 million cedis.
An Axle Load Weigh Station is a point used by supervisors from the GHA to check a truck’s weight to ensure it is not overweight and conforms to state laws and safety guidelines.
