Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has accused the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, of acting against her own decisions made during the 2020 general elections regarding the recalculation of results.
Dafeamekpor expressed concerns about the potential chaos that could arise if Mensa were to hold a press conference and declare that she would not recognize the results of the 2020 presidential election, instead calling for a recalculation. He warned that such a move would destabilize the country.
Recalling the events of December 2020, Dafeamekpor reminded the public of the Minority’s petition to the Electoral Commissioner regarding the Techiman South parliamentary election results.
He noted that despite the challenges they faced including being brutalized while submitting the petition the Minority succeeded in filing their grievances with the EC.
“The petition was acknowledged by Jean Mensa on December 23, 2020, and she assured us that she would respond.
On December 31, 2020, she responded in writing, and in paragraph 13 of her response, she clearly stated that recalculation could only occur before the declaration of results, not after.
Any post-declaration disputes, she stated, should be resolved by the courts,” Dafeamekpor said.
He argued that Jean Mensa is now contradicting her earlier position by suggesting recalculation after results have been declared.
“She should not dare us any further. Tomorrow, this issue will be in court,” Dafeamekpor warned.
