Police probe alleged ambush on Asantehene’s convoy

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region.

The incident is said to have occurred as the Asantehene was returning from a funeral in Nkoranza. Preliminary reports indicate that some individuals, believed to be local youth from Techiman, threw stones at the buses in the convoy.

In a statement, the police assured the public of their commitment to uncovering the facts of the case. They noted that they are engaging with the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and other key stakeholders in Techiman to aid the investigation.

 

The incident has drawn attention due to the Asantehene’s revered status and the historical significance of peaceful coexistence between communities. The police have urged calm as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.

 

“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as the investigation into the matter continues,” the statement read.
