Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has partly blamed the significant defeat the party experienced in the December 7 elections on former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The outgoing MP for Asante Akim North stated that Ofori-Atta became so influential within the party that Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were unable to seek his help or assistance.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi made these comments during an interview on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, December 14.
According to him, “Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta grew too pompous. He was more powerful than the President and the Vice President and that was why we wanted him out.”
It would be recalled that Mr Appiah Kubi and over 90 of his colleagues in Parliament called for the sacking of Ken Ofori-Atta when economic hardship in the country heightened with ratings agencies downgrading the economy. They contended that their constituents were complaining about the high cost of living and urging them to do something about it.
Somehow, President Akufo-Addo did not budge.
Mr Appiah Kubi added that other ministers even ignored phone calls from the MPs to seek development projects for their constituencies.
On the same show, a Professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo described the current executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as people who were manipulated by President Akufo-Addo.
He has therefore called for the removal of all the current executives.
“Let me call on the owners of the NPP to rescue the party from the claws of Akufo-Addo and the entire executive of the party.
“They have to stop the imminent disintegration of the party because we need a strong opposition to keep the government on its toes.
