The Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) requires “open-heart surgery” to recover from its electoral defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking passionately during an interview on Metro TV, the MP blamed prominent figures within the party, including Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, President Akufo-Addo, and key advisor Gabby Otchere-Darko, for the party’s loss.
The MP expressed deep frustration over the party’s failure to meet with President Akufo-Addo when they attempted to raise concerns privately about the party’s future direction.
He recalled that after their failed attempts to meet the President, a press conference was held to voice their frustrations, leading to a meeting with the President the following day.
Boakye Antwi specifically pointed to the NPP’s economic management as a key factor in the party’s defeat.
He criticized excessive borrowing and the imposition of heavy taxes under the leadership of Ken Ofori-Atta, which he believes alienated voters and weakened the party’s support base.
“The NPP needs urgent reform and internal unity to rebuild,” he concluded, stressing the need for a party that truly serves the interests of Ghanaians.
