The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) conceded defeat too quickly at the presidential level during the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, Dr. Adomako Kissi also revealed the staggering financial investments made by NPP parliamentary candidates, with each spending an average of GH¢10 million on their campaigns.
He explained that this amount, which covered expenses from primaries through to the general elections, reflects the immense financial pressure placed on candidates in Ghana’s high-stakes political environment.
However, he lamented that these significant sacrifices often do not yield the desired results, leaving many candidates disillusioned.
“On average, every NPP Member of Parliament who went into this battle may have spent close to GH¢10 million.
From primaries to date. GH¢10 million on average. And that is because they had faith and they felt that they could win.
And like I said, I am not here to add to their injury.
It is a very painful thing to invest so much and lose,” he said.
Dr. Adomako Kissi also pointed out the unrealistic expectations placed on candidates by the electorate, which only add to the financial strain.
He emphasized that voters often demand more than is feasible, a situation worsened by the numerous promises made by politicians.
“I was talking with Honourable Henry Quartey, and he felt that people were also demanding more than was doable from a lot of ministers.
But who caused it? The promises were many,” he remarked.
