Ghanaian Journalist, Manasseh Azuri has revealed that the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama and leadership of National Democratic Congress (NDC) were against the removal of Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, Adwoa Safo from parliament.
Sharing excerpts of his book, “The President Ghana Never Got” he wrote, “If you ever attacked her (Adwoa Safo), you would feel remorseful after reading this chapter.”
“The Minority Chief Whip of Parliament at the time, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, told me in a recorded interview why the NDC in parliament and leadership of the party, including now President-elect John Dramani Mahama, wanted Adwoa Safo to stay.”
According to him, Adwoa Safo has been battling an undisclosed condition which members of her party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) knew about but chose to make her an outcast.
“Finally, Muntaka explains that the NPP MPs and leadership knew of Adwoa Safo’s condition but were prepared to crucify her on the altar of political expediency due to the numbers in the House. (The story of her going to take care of her sick child isn’t true. Muntaka reveals, in clues, what was wrong with her).”
Manasseh Azuri revealed President Akufo-Addo was in suport of Adwoa Safo’s removal and managed to convince Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to side with him.
In August 2022, Adwoa Safo who was Gender Minister <span;> was relieved of her ministerial position after staying outside the country for nearly a year.
During that period, NPP MPs had also filed a petition to strip her off as MP and declare her seat vacant.
