A female student at the University of Ghana has alleged that the free shuttle service on campus has been cancelled following the defeat of the area’s Member of Parliament in the recent elections.
According to the student, the shuttle service, which was launched by the incumbent MP, Lydia Alhassan, in November, was halted after she lost her parliamentary seat.
The initiative, which had been a major convenience for students, is now facing an uncertain future, raising concerns among the university community.
This is according to one of the female students, identified on TikTok as @mariyam_prtty.
In the lead-up to the Saturday, December 7, 2024, general elections, the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, launched a free shuttle service for the students.
Officially launched in November 2024, the initiative was introduced to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by students.
The free shuttle service provided a huge relief to the students populations as its offered them ease of transportation to and fro their destinations.
However, following Lydia Alhassan’s defeat in the parliamentary elections to John Dumelo of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the free shuttle service has allegedly been halted
