Private Legal Practitioner and host of the Newsfile on Joy News, Samson Lardy Anyenini says the arrest of the Member of Parliament (MP), Lydia Alhassan is long overdue.
According to him, the MP should have been arrested following her actions at the Special Voting exercise on Monday, December 2, 2024.
Lydia Seyram Alhassan was captured in a viral video sharing food and water to voters in a queue during the special voting exercise on Monday.
The MP who denied knowledge and involvement in the food sharing later came to admit to it after a video of her doing so emerged.
She has received condemnation from many, including a Founding father of the NPP, Nyaho Tamakloe.
John Dumelo, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon also filed a petition at the Special Prosecutor’s office over Lydia’s actions.
Samson Lardy Anyenini reacting to Lydia’s actions said, “what happened with Lydia Alhassan and I said yesterday she should have been arrested, but she was not. I know that if it were to be John Dumelo who had done it, he would’ve been arrested.”
He indicated that the MPs actions were against the nation’s law which talks about a candidate presenting meat, entertainment or drinks for the purposes of corrupting or influencing a person to vote or another person to vote or refrain from.
According to him, Ghana has a way of picking laws from other countries and refusing to “innovate them to meet our circumstances. These laws are applicable elsewhere because there are conditions to obeying them.”
