The NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Dome Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr, says he is prepared to accept any result, as long as the collation process is above board.

Speaking after the Supreme Court ruling yesterday, Mike Oquaye emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in the electoral process. He expressed his readiness to accept the outcome, provided the election results are collated properly and in accordance with the rules.

The Dome Kwabenya and Okaikwei North seats remain the only outstanding parliamentary seats yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission following the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

A controversial re-collation exercise held at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) on Saturday, December 21, saw four seats, initially declared for the NDC, re-declared in favour of the NPP. These seats included Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, and Techiman South.

The Obuasi East seat, initially declared for NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, was re-declared for NPP’s Patrick Boakye-Yiadom; the Tema Central seat, initially declared for NDC’s Ebi Bright, was re-declared for NPP’s Charles Forson; Techiman South was re-declared for NPP’s Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah; and Okaikwei Central was re-declared for NPP’s Dr. Patrick Boamah.

Other constituencies, including Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, and Ahafo Ano North, were also declared in favour of NPP candidates. However, the Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya constituencies are still undecided. In Ablekuma North, NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn was declared the winner, but the results of 62 polling stations were not included. In Dome Kwabenya, NDC’s Elikplim Akurugu was initially declared the winner over Mike Oquaye Jnr.

If all other factors remain equal, the NDC would hold 181 seats in the 9th Parliament, with independent candidates securing 4 seats.

“I’m man enough, if we’ve lost an election, to clear it…let us be fair, let us play by the rules.”
