A senior member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and legal practitioner Dr. Kwame Jantuah fired shots at the Jean Mensa’s Electoral Commission.
Kwame Jantuah has questioned the EC’s selective nature of their re-collation of some constituencies they claimed to be illegally declared.
According to him, the Jean Mensa-led EC is only re-collating parliamentary seat that were previously declared in favor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on GHOne TV, Dr. Kwame Jantuah stated, “Duress in the home setting is different from duress in the public setting, two different things especially with cameras running. Especially with people around, especially with journalists taking down notes to report”.
“You ask for evidence, for me that is basis. She went by what her officers said but showed the people the evidence that should support your re-collation. Show the evidence, be clear, and be transparent about it. And those other constituencies that were against the NPP, did she do anything about it? he added”
Kwame Jantuah further added, “All this re-collation, isn’t it on those constituencies that the NDC won? Why so? Were they not others where the NDC too were against the figures that were given?”
“For me, I believe the EC should be as independent as possible and this is where we need to go back to the constitution, I don’t believe that it’s the president who should, he reiterated”.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission through an Accra High Court order has re-collated the Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and Techiman South, which were previously declared in favor of the NDC have been re-declared for the NPP.
Two constituencies left outstanding are the Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya.
