Some traders in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region have expressed their support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the general elections on December 7.
Traders from Kejetia, Central, Racecourse, Abinkyi, Bantama, and Suame Markets stated that they feel disappointed with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has led them to shift their support to the NDC.
During a press conference today at the Racecourse Market, the leader of the group, Akosua Pokuah, criticized the NPP for failing to complete the Kumasi Central Market after nearly eight years in office, especially after forcibly evicting the traders.
She also highlighted the poor conditions at the Racecourse Market, including the deteriorating road network, which has made trading activities difficult.
Madam Pokuah pointed out that the NPP government has not repaired sections of the Kejetia Market that were damaged by fire, leaving many traders unable to conduct their businesses.
The dissatisfied traders noted that, despite not having previously voted for the NDC, they have invested in building several market centres, including the Kumasi Kejetia Market.
As a result, they have declared their support for the NDC and John Dramani Mahama, citing the party’s commitment to helping traders and improving their working conditions.
