In one of the most remarkable upsets of the 2024 general elections, long-serving Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, has lost his seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.
Dorani secured 14,229 votes, narrowly defeating KT Hammond, who garnered 13,275 votes. The Convention People’s Party (CPP) candidate, Mensah Abraham Justice, received 346 votes.
The defeat brings an end to KT Hammond’s decades-long tenure as MP for Adansi Asokwa. Hammond, a key figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has represented the constituency since 2000, making this loss a significant moment in the political history of the constituency.
Godwin Dorani’s victory is being hailed by NDC supporters as a sign of changing dynamics in a constituency traditionally dominated by the NPP. Analysts have attributed the outcome to strategic campaigning and growing voter demand for change in representation.
Dorani has promised to bring fresh ideas and inclusive leadership to Adansi Asokwa. In his victory speech, he expressed gratitude to constituents for entrusting him with the mandate to serve. “This is a victory for the people of Adansi Asokwa,” he said. “I am committed to working with everyone to bring meaningful development to our constituency.”
As Adansi Asokwa transitions to new leadership, this result highlights the evolving political landscape in Ghana, with the 2024 elections continuing to deliver unexpected outcomes across the country.
