The Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah is reportedly planning on handing in her resignation letter.
According to sources close to her, Jean Mensa will tender in her resignation letter before the swearing in of President-elect, John Dramani Mahama into office on January 7, 2025.
Jean Mensa’s resignation is said to be a move to avoid any embarrassment by a forced removal orchestrated by the new NDC government.
Although Jean Mensa herself has not publicly made such a pronouncement, Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting such a move.
It has been purported that President-elect, John Dramani Mahama will make a total overhaul in the leadership of various state institutions and agencies, including the Supreme Court and Electoral Commission.
Although the replacement to these offices are yet to be unveiled, it is alleged that they will be persons with allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Following these speculations, Professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has voiced strong concerns regarding the potential dismissal of the Chief Justice by President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
According to Professor Adei, such a move could establish a dangerous precedent, jeopardizing the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary and the stability of its democracy in the long term.
