An X user, OleleSalvador, raised concerns about Lydia Alhassan, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, distributing food packs to voters during the special voting exercise, questioning whether this constitutes “undue influence” according to the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a post on X OleleSalvador stated ‘’is this allowed? Isn’t this “undue influence” according to the EC?’’
Alhassan, along with her team, was seen handing out food to voters waiting in line at the Legon Police Station, one of the designated special voting centers in the constituency.
John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, criticized the food distribution, describing it as a violation of EC rules.
He stated, “Why are you sharing food with people in the queue? Why are you doing that? Does it mean we cannot share food too? We can also do the same, but let’s respect the rules of the Electoral Commission.”
Dumelo further questioned the contents of the food packages, saying, “Don’t share anything with people in the queue who have not voted yet. You’re sharing food, and we don’t even know what’s in the package.”
Despite this, Dumelo remained confident about his chances in the upcoming December 7 elections.
He expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the voting process and reiterated his belief that he would secure victory.
Is this allowed? Isn’t this “undue influence” according to the EC?👀 https://t.co/mdOJO9Cz67
