Convener of the FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Barker Vormawor, has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to fulfill his promise and ensure that the state drops charges against the Democracy Hub protesters.
Vormawor, speaking candidly about the ongoing legal proceedings, criticized the government’s handling of the case, calling it an example of political persecution.
“We can see the body language of the prosecution,”
“A delay and adjournment is the language of a regime that knows no shame.
If they were constitutionally responsible, they would have dropped these charges by now.”
Vormawor emphasized that while every accused person is entitled to a fair trial and proper defense, the case against the protesters was purely politically motivated.
“This is nothing but political persecution of environmental activists,” he asserted.
“If the Republic had any shame, these charges would already have been dropped.”
The activist also reminded the President-elect of his campaign promise to end the charges against activists involved in the StopGalamsey protests, as well as other politically motivated charges, including the treason charges against Vormawor himself.
“The President-elect campaigned on the grounds that the first thing he was going to do was demand the dropping of these charges,” he said.
Vormawor made it clear that if the charges were not dropped by February 17, 2025, the protesters would boycott the judicial process entirely.
“If the charges are not dropped, we are all going to boycott the judicial process, and the courts can do whatever they want,” he declared.
“We intend the new administration to engage in these conversations of justice,” he said.
“But we are clear that we no longer have any patience for these traps of charges anymore.”
