Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, known by all as Tems, has openly admitted to being initially naïve in her early days in the music industry.
Talking about her career journey and personal philosophy in a recent interview with Glamour Magazine, the Grammy-winning artist, said, “I don’t want to lie. I was very naive at the beginning of my career. I just wanted to make good art”.
According to her, it took her some time to learn how to manage and find her way around the complexities of the music business in a more sustainable and mindful way adding that it’s a lesson she continues to apply even today.
Tems went on to share how hesitant she is to fully embrace mobile phones, expressing a preference for living in the moment and savoring real-life experiences over being consumed by digital distractions.
“I don’t like my smartphone anyway. I prefer to live in the world and have experiences. If I have even the smallest excuse to leave my phone in the drawer, I’ll take it every time” she disclosed.
Although her growth in her career is quite evident, Tems applauded her family and management for helping her stay grounded through it all.
“It is both my management and my family that keeps me grounded. Especially my family, my mother, and my brother,” she highlighted.
