President-elect John Dramani Mahama has taken the time to clarify his Nigerian background, addressing questions about his heritage and connection to Nigeria.
In a recent statement during a conference, Mahama explained that his stepmother, who raised him, is Nigerian and hails from Ofa in Kwara State, Nigeria.
“Let me clear a few things,” Mahama began, as he spoke candidly about his upbringing. “My stepmother is Nigerian, and she raised me. She comes from Ofa in Kwara State.”
He shared that when coup forced his father into exile, he moved to Nigeria to live with his stepmother for several years.
“At that time, my father lived in exile here in Nigeria, and I had to come and stay with my stepmother in Ofa.
I knew Ofa quite well, and I consider it my hometown here in Nigeria.”
Mahama also revealed that his relationship with the people of Ofa is deep-rooted.
“The Olofa of Ofa was very gracious to grant me a chieftaincy title, and so for those of you who don’t know, I am the Ari Atolashi of Ofa Kingdom,” he proudly shared,
